9001 Update
ISO
9001 revision is now in the Draft International Standard
(DIS) phase and is expected to be released in Fall 2008.
The
changes are primarily in language and terminology, clarifying
some elements of the 2001 version. Some notable changes:
4.2.1
It now explains you can cover more than one required document
in a single procedure (e.g.; you can combine corrective
and preventive action in 1 procedure).
6.2.2
c) changes from checking the "effectiveness of training"
to ensuring the achievement of competence.
6.3
Now includes information systems
7.6
The word "devices" has gratefully been changed
to "equipment".
8.2.2
There is an added requirement for records of the audits
and their results.
There
are several other changes in wording. Based on preliminary
review, we do not anticipate many, if any, changes will
be needed in your current system. It is not expected that
registrars will add any assessment days to tranfer your
registration to the new standard. We will keep you informed
as the standard progresses and release gets nearer. Typically,
you have three years to transfer to the new standard. Again,
the changes are primarily clarification of the previous
standard.
If
you have any questions or concerns about the standard, please
contact us.
